I am trying to change the message sent to any user that checked the 'Watch this topic'. The default message is:

A new message has been posted in the thread {topic} at {forumname}.

To read the message, open the following link in your browser:
<{link}>

I would like to know the complete list of tags that can be used to build a message, because some users are complaining that this message does not bring the title of the topic and other information that could be useful to identify it.

Thanks,

Julio Cesar Santos

{topic} is the exact title of the topic and if you click on the link you get direct access to it. What kind of info need your users?

A user sent me the message he has received and on the place where {topic} were supposed to be, there were only the forum name and on {forumname} there were the name of the forum that was one level up.
That is why I would like to know the complete list of tags so I can customize the message with more information.

Thanks,

In fact, one of our problem is that we can't send more information to the forum's email. I believe there are a lot of users with the same problem.
For example, today when someone create a new Topic or a Post, every forum's subscriber will recieve an e-mail with something like this:

Quote:

Subject:
[Topic Subscription New Post Notification (From Elipse Forum)]

Body:
A new message has been posted in the thread {topic} at {forum}.

To read the message, open the following link in your browser:
{link}

I believe this message is a little "empty", difficult to know if the content is interesting or not for our customers, and they stop to visit it.

What I believe we should show is something like this:

Quote:

Subject:
[Topic Subscription New Post Notification (From Elipse Forum)]

Body:
A new message has been posted in the thread {topic} at {forum} with the next commentary:
{body message} (can be the first 100 characters, or all the message)

To read the message, open the following link in your browser:
{link}

What Julio want to know is if there is somewhere we can find all the tags possibilities, like {body message} i have invented to describe the problem.

Thanks for the help!
Best regards

there isn't current a body/message tag. Can be added by looking in the code in pages\postmessage.ascx.cs.

I also thing adding the user's name in the message is a good idea. Let's expand this section to include most tags and then leave it up to individual boards to utilize them within the language XML template files.

Something I will need to implement this coming week. I'll post my code when I get a chance.

I have a problem with the notification. I first have installed the RC2 and got only this in my email box as a notification email:

[]

So, empty beside the two brackets.
I did upgrade to the FINAl just now, but this did not do the trick. I still get the same.
Can anyone help me with this?
Oh, yes, I am using the Dutch langauge.

Hi Underground,

I have that problem too, the notification are almost empty. I receive [] that's all.

I am using French.

Did you correct that situation?

No, I haven't been able to correct this problem. Users already complained about this and therefore it is an urgent problem for us. However, I cannot find any solution, so help is greatly appreciated.

http://www.yetanotherforum.net/blog/post/Multi-lingual-Want-to-help.aspx

The problem is that there is NO Dutch or French localization for the email notifications. The zip linked in the above post "fixes" the issue by copying the English translation into the missing language localization.

GREAT!!
We would say: You don't know half how happy I am.

The email is in English, but beats the [] by far. Thanks again, you made my day!

And yes, of coarse I am waiting now for the Dutch version. I might have a look at the XML myself. Maybe it is something I can now do myself. But is has become less urgent.

That would be great if you could update the translation.

I'll have a look at it. If I succeed I will certainly contribute something to the YAF community by posting back the result.

One small note or more a minor bug.
The link that is given in the email is wrong. It says:
../default.aspx?g=posts&m=301#301
and it should be:
../default.aspx?g=posts&m=301#post301

What is shown now is from the previous YAF forum software and is changed now.
