If checked, users will be allowed to email topics.

thanks for the clarification.

but it would be cool to be able to interact with the forum via email - e.g. create new topics including attachments via email, reply to posts via email, ...

maybe there could be one configurable email-inbox which is polled by the forum software. it should receive mails for all configured email-addresses. every forum could have a email-address configured.

e.g. forum 1 - forum1@myforum.com - whenever someone sends an email to this address - a new topic is created in the forum. when a user receives a mail notification about a new post in a topic the user should be able to reply to this post by email and the answer should be inserted into the corresponding thread.

An email system wouldnt work, because there is no possiblity to correctly check if the user is valid. And it would be an easy target for spammers.

It's a spammers paradise... hence it's disabled by default. But if you have a closed YAF.NET forum -- it can be safely enabled.

i don't understand why this is not possible. This is exactly what the mail connector for the active forum achieves.

It is also how yahoo groups and google groups work. People expect email interaction with forums these days. I would love to see this feature.

I agree; I don't see why it won't work if the right security measures are put in place; think SPF, DMARC, and such.
