When I look at the Version Check in Admin, the site gives me an odd message: Version Check You are running Yet Another Forum.net version 1.9.1.2. The latest available version is 1.9.1 released 9/1/2007. So, by that measure, I'm running a newer version than even exists. This forum is at version 1.9.1.8. Is the upgrade functionality of 1.9.1.2 broken? How can I safely perform a manual upgrade without destroying my current forum? I've backed everything up in preparation for this, but I'd rather not have to do any sort of disaster recovery. Thanks for the help!! jaben wrote:# Include the VERSION of YAF that you are having issues with. If you are installing it on DNN or Rainbow, include THAT version in your post.

Not exactly -- v1.9.1.x is the latest version the Version Check doesn't currently handle the .x (build) part right now. v1.9.1.8 is the latest version of v1.9.1. "When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears”."

v1.9.1.8 is the latest version of v1.9.1. Thank you Jaben, for the reply. I have downloaded 1.9.1.8. Is it a simple matter of a file copy to upgrade to this version. I don't want to trash my current configuration. Are there tables that need created in the DB? Basically, I would like to get my 1.9.1.2 upgraded to the current version. What's the shortest route from where I am to where I want to get? Thanks!

Just overwrite the files.... it should auto-upgrade the first time you run it. "When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears”."

Jaben wrote:Just overwrite the files.... it should auto-upgrade the first time you run it. Dang... This is what I feared most. There has been a serious error loading the forum. No futher information is available. Please contact the administrator if this message persists. Try Again I did not upload the yafnet.config, but did upload all other files and overwrote what existed. Having not looked at the source, are there some folders/files I want to upload and not others? Perhaps just the bin? For now, I'm going to restore my original site, but I'd really like to get this upgrade to work. Thanks!

All you need to do is modify the 1.9.1.8 yaf.config with your settings, and all will be well in the world! .....the man in black fled across the desert..........and the gunslinger followed.....

Uploading new files as we speak, including modified yaf.config. UPDATE: No joy. Uploaded the old forum again. There has to be an easier way to do this. I'll keep looking into it.

Just to be sure....when you copy the files, are you going to the /install/default.aspx page to upgrade the database? .....the man in black fled across the desert..........and the gunslinger followed.....

Hey, test... No, I did not. I was not clear that there were DB upgrades that needed to take place, but that is not surprising. That may well be the issue. Actually what I wanted was the ability to embed YouTubes in my messages. As a last move before going to bed last night, I took the 1.9.1.8 BBCode.cs and compiled it into the 1.9.1.2 code base. (Not the smartest move, I know.) Uploaded the yaf.dll and it appears to be working. I have not given anything a real "once over" yet. I am concerned that there may be other dependencies, so I may have hosed other functionality with this goofy move. So, I'll do another backup today, then upload the 1.9.1.8 binaries and run the install/default.aspx to do any necessary db upgrades, and we'll see what happens. Thanks for the tip!!

Got it. Or, at least it looks like it. Test, you are a gentleman and a scholar!! There was a SQL Error during the upgrade. Later today I'll use the GoDaddy query analyzer to run the command manually and see what the deal is. There was some sort of permissons error. One last question: When I originally set up my forum, somewhere in the Admin tools I found a place to increase the default font size. For the life of me I cannot find that again. The upgrade reverted to the smaller font. Maybe I just edited css files?? I just can't remember how I did that. Is there an admin setting for this?

Tried to run the SQL scripts manually this afternoon. All of them execute normally with the exception of the fulltext.sql. fulltext.sql wrote:-- Enables FULLTEXT support for YAF -- Must be MANUALLY run against the YAF DB
if (select DATABASEPROPERTY(DB_NAME(), N'IsFullTextEnabled')) <> 1 exec sp_fulltext_database N'enable' GO
if (select DATABASEPROPERTY(DB_NAME(), N'IsFullTextEnabled')) = 1 BEGIN if not exists (select * from dbo.sysfulltextcatalogs where name = N'YafSearch') BEGIN EXEC sp_fulltext_catalog N'YafSearch', N'create' EXEC sp_fulltext_table N'[dbo].[yaf_Message]', N'create', N'YafSearch', N'PK_yaf_Message' EXEC sp_fulltext_column N'[dbo].[yaf_Message]', N'Message', N'add' EXEC sp_fulltext_table N'[dbo].[yaf_Message]', N'activate' EXEC sp_fulltext_table N'[dbo].[yaf_Message]', N'Start_change_tracking' EXEC sp_fulltext_table N'[dbo].[yaf_Message]', N'Start_background_updateindex'
EXEC sp_fulltext_table N'[dbo].[yaf_Topic]', N'create', N'YafSearch', N'PK_yaf_Topic' EXEC sp_fulltext_column N'[dbo].[yaf_Topic]', N'Topic', N'add' EXEC sp_fulltext_table N'[dbo].[yaf_Topic]', N'activate' EXEC sp_fulltext_table N'[dbo].[yaf_Topic]', N'Start_change_tracking' EXEC sp_fulltext_table N'[dbo].[yaf_Topic]', N'Start_background_updateindex' -- enable in yaf_Registry as a default IF EXISTS ( SELECT 1 FROM yaf_Registry where [Name] = N'usefulltextsearch' ) UPDATE yaf_Registry SET [Value] = '1' WHERE [Name] = N'usefulltextsearch' ELSE INSERT INTO yaf_Registry ([Name],[Value],[BoardID]) VALUES (N'usefulltextsearch','1',NULL); END END GO
When I execute this sql script I get the following error message from the DB: DB wrote:User does not have permission to perform this action. Full-Text catalog 'YafSearch' does not exist in database 'eye0734602341135' or user does not have permission to perform this action.
I do have execute permissions for the DB, and when I look for a table 'YafSearch' indeed, there is not one there. Do I need to create this table manually?

FTS is a resource instensive function, does GoDaddy allow FTS on SQL instances? YAF will still work though. As far as the default text size, CSS is where you would set this. However, I like to educate my users instead of recoding things! Providing you use EM (not PX or PTS) to set text size, holding the control button and scrolling the mouse wheel adjusts text faster. .....the man in black fled across the desert..........and the gunslinger followed.....

Thank you again Test. I am not certain if GoDaddy allows FTS or not, but as you have indicated it will not cause any issues with the Forum, I believe I'll just leave this alone for now.
I am aware of the Ctrl-Scroll for text resizing and use it from time to time, but I just wanted to adjust the default size and let the user work from there.
Thanks again for your prompt and helpful feedback.

I just went through this same thing. I copied the latest files and since the install/default does not work I manually installed all of the SQL files. The only one that did not work was the same one the fulltext.
One other issue is that on the admin page of the forum it says that the forum and the database are not the same version and to run the install/default. since this does not work how do I get that message to go away?
Is there another script that takes care of this that I am missing?
Thanks.
