YAF v1.9.0 RC1 (Dated 07/25/2006)

What’s new:

  • For NET Framework v2.0.
  • Topics, messages and attachments are no longer deleted from the database -- just marked as deleted -- need to add system to make the deleted topics viewable by admin/moderators if desired.
  • Update hundreds of "obsolete" functions for NET v2.0
  • Fixed security issues related to BBCode and postmessage.aspx
  • Fixed search.aspx javascript bug.
  • Added resource.ashx HTTPHandler and removed image.aspx.
  • Themes per forums now implemented.
  • Enhanced user admin system implemented.
  • Board Settings now includes the ability to change the forum graphic (standalone only) per theme.
  • Fixes to the Sort Method and Indentation to the Admin Forums List.
  • Fixes to the Sort Method and Indentation to the Forum Jump List.
  • Parent forum drop down now only displays the forums in the category list and is also now indented correctly.
  • Fixes to the hardcoded text as posted by Neven.
  • Added collapsible categories and information/active discussion panels on the forums page. Also added collapsiable Last 10 posts in profile.
  • Internalized a few javascript resources. Now they are accessed via resource.ashx.
  • Added PM e-mail notification system including templates and user/host settings options.
  • Added optional “theme credit” line to themes.
  • Added “Quick Reply” system with javascript expandable panel.
  • Added “DataPanel” control to YAF project (Thanks to Businessware Architects)
  • Added FlatEarth theme to project.
  • Reformatted much of the C# code.
  • Lots of misc HTML coding changes.
  • Lots of misc bug fixes.

The database has changed! You will need to upgrade your database using the following after installing by visiting this YAF URL: /install/default.aspx

BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR DATABASE BEFORE ATTEMPTING AN UPGRADE

After installation and setup it's suggested that you remove or rename your /install/ directory for security reasons. (This will be fixed in future versions.)

Since this is a .NET v2.0 version make sure to take a look at default.config and merge changes with your web.config.

To explain the obvious questions that will come from this release giving that v1.9.2 was release months ago.

This release does not implement .NET v2.0 membership & roles so it is considered a step backwards technology-wise. I realize it's confusing, but the next release on the road to v2.0 *will* include v1.9.2 feature integration. The next release (possibly v1.9.5) will provide an upgrade path for people who have already moved to v1.9.2.

Currently, I'm not releasing a module for DNN4. I will work on that here very soon.

There may be .NET persistant cookie issues with this release. If you encounter this problem please let me know.

    Thank you sir.

I appreciate the kudos -- but I cannot take the credit.

Mek, Neven, Willie and of course, Bjorner deserve credit as well. (And everyone else that contributes around here!)

Jaben, how come you don't attach the files to the message, so we can track number of downloads....

Grr I still can't do a semi production test as my hosts want to charge me $10 to move from a .net 1.1 server to a server that has .net 2.0 installed. The cheek of it.

"It's a case of RTFM.. the only problem being we don't have a manual!"

When I post FP:Mek in a topic, I'm leaving my footprint there so I can track it once I get into coding/supporting. (Yes I stole this off Ederon Smile )

Is it ok to advertise? I got a server that I could host your guy's stuff on. It's got both 1.1 and 2.0 along with other stuff like MSSQL 2000 along with a few other languages. It's what I run my websites off of. What I usually do is setup a virtual domain (beta) so I can do testing on that (like beta.meetandplay.com) and then move it to the real deal when ready. Let me know if you're interested.

Some images were missing from some of the themes. I just copied from other themes. Also added the runat=server to the head tag in the framehelper.aspx as it was throwing some errors. All checked in.

Strangely -- I couldn't get upload to work properly. It would work on small files (less then a meg) but both files are more then a meg and it would just fail!

Very frustrating... I didn't have time to sort it out.

Nice release...any estimates on when ASP.NET 2.0 roles & membership will be added?
Just trying to work out whether to grab this release or hold off.

    Cheers.
