Ok how do I install properly to a subdomain?

I can go into my hosting control panel and create a subdomain, for example, forum.mydomain.net.

I managed to install YAF onto my webserver by going to www.mydomain.net/forum/install/default.aspx and it installed fine. I can now go to www.mydomain.net/forum/default.aspx and it works fine but

With my hosting, www.mydomain.net/forum is the same as forum.mydomain.net but when I go to forum.mydomain.net it doesn't work because the paths are wrong! It wants to add an extra "/forum"! It wants to look for files at forum.mydomain.net/forum when it shouldn't in that case.

Am I making any sense? How can I solve this issue?

Thanks.

Still wrestling with this Sad I did a search and it seems this is a problem without a solution? Seems it's just a path issue and it would be easy to fix....

If I remove <root>/forum/</root> out of the yafnet.config altogether I get the error The file '/pages/forum.ascx' does not exist.

And if I leave it in I can go to the front page (forum.mydomain.net, graphics don't load), but when I click on a forum I get "The Resource cannot be found" because it's looking here: /forum/forum/default.aspx

I don't think it will work in the configuration you specify. Unless that subdomained directory is ALSO an application. Because YAF needs to map paths... not sure how your host does it but it sounds unusual.

Everything works where it is at http://www.mydomain.net/forum IF I address it that way. I finally got it installed after a lot of editing and moving files around.

The problem is that I should be able to type into my browser http://forum.mydomain.net and have it work, but it doesn't.

http://www.myforum.net/forum and http://forum.mydomain.net are the same thing (I think this is pretty common) and like every other web page should be able to be used interchangeably, no? The program doesn't seem able to tell that these are the same.

Why can't the program know that my forum site root is at http://forum.mydomain.net and read everything from there?

Your host needs to make ~/forum a "virtual directory". Then you can do what you suggest once you setup YAF properly. (Move the web.config to the /forum directory and the yaf.dll to the /forum/bin directory, etc.)

I got YAF to work on a sub domain, but I have my own dedicated server. I created a new website in IIS, specifying the "forum.mydomain.com" in the host header value. The problem I had was DNS. Not knowing DNS at all, I had to hire a DNS guru to sort it, I can PM you my settings if you want to try them
